Saddlebrook Resort in Wesley Chapel, Florida, Launches $92 Million Revitalization Project

Wesley Chapel, Florida — Saddlebrook Resort, a prominent destination spanning 480 acres near Tampa, Florida, has announced a comprehensive $92 million redevelopment initiative aimed at transforming the guest experience, golf facilities, and overall property amenities. The project, which began its phased implementation in late 2024, seeks to reposition Saddlebrook as a leading destination for leisure travelers, golf and tennis enthusiasts, and corporate groups.

Key Elements of the Revitalization

The redevelopment plans involve a significant overhaul of the resort’s existing facilities, including revamped golf courses, upgraded guest accommodations, new dining options, and modernized event and outdoor spaces. The property was acquired in 2022 by Mast Capital, in partnership with Amzak Capital Management, which has committed substantial investment towards enhancing Saddlebrook’s appeal and amenities.

Golf Course Redesign and Enhancements

An essential component of the project is the transformation of Saddlebrook’s golf facilities. World-renowned golf architect Rees Jones is leading the redesign of the golf grounds, which will feature a reconfiguration from two original 18-hole courses—designed by Arnold Palmer—into three 9-hole championship layouts. This innovative design allows for versatile play and the creation of three distinct 18-hole experiences by rotating the different 9-hole courses.

The redevelopment incorporates six holes from the former Palmer Course and is scheduled to introduce one of the new nine-hole courses in late 2025, another in early 2026, with the third expected to open for limited play before its full renovation completion planned for spring or summer 2026.

The new courses will range from 6,600 to over 7,005 yards, with pars of either 71 or 72, adhering to USGA specifications. The redesign includes rebuilding green complexes, reshaping bunkers, and installing an advanced irrigation and drainage system to optimize turf conditions and sustainability. The landscaping and course shaping emphasize environmental stewardship and playability, catering to golfers of various skill levels.

Improved Practice Facilities

New practice facilities are being developed on a 13-acre site, featuring a double-sided driving range extending over 360 yards for diverse practice options. The area will also include two TifEagle™ bermudagrass putting greens, three short-game practice areas with precision greenside bunkers, and dedicated chipping zones. These facilities aim to serve both casual players and serious golfers working on honing their skills.

Resort Renovations and Future Development

The broader master plan, designed by EoA Group, includes extensive upgrades to guest accommodations, such as revamped guest rooms and residential-style suites. Multiple new dining concepts, updated event spaces, and outdoor leisure areas are also planned to enhance the guest experience. The development will feature over 40,000 square feet of meeting space suitable for conferences, weddings, and corporate events.

Additionally, a new town center is in the planning stages, which will comprise 465 rental apartments, 25 townhomes, and 75,000 square feet dedicated to retail outlets and office space. This integrated development aims to create a vibrant community and attract a diverse range of visitors and residents.

Sports Training and Recreational Facilities

Saddlebrook continues to serve as a world-class sports training hub, boasting 43 tennis courts, eight pickleball courts, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and a spa. The resort is also planning to add a multi-court padel tennis complex to meet growing demand for this popular sport. Its tennis and golf academies have trained notable athletes, including tennis legends Pete Sampras, Jim Courier, and ATP World No. 3 Alexander Zverev, who has trained at Saddlebrook since age 12.

Operational Oversight and Accessibility

Golf operations and membership sales are managed by Troon Golf, a leading golf management company. The resort’s strategic location makes it highly accessible, being only 30 minutes from Tampa International Airport, which facilitates easy access for visitors traveling from across the country and beyond.

Overall, the Saddlebrook revitalization aims to restore its status as a premier golf and leisure destination, blending world-class sports facilities with upscale accommodations and community-oriented developments, ensuring its appeal to a broad range of guests in the years ahead.
